Creature · ICARUS 3.0.26 · Week 248
Sandwyrm Queens are colossal, airborne predators that dominate the deep desert and represent the final stage of the sandworm life cycle. Their immense size is substantial enough to interfere with satellite signals, and their armored exoskeleton shrugs off most conventional weapons. As matriarchs, they are responsible for laying clutches of eggs that eventually hatch into the sandworms that burrow unseen beneath the dunes. Highly territorial and violently aggressive, a Queen will respond to any perceived threat with overwhelming force. Despite their near-impenetrable hide, the cranial region and mouth cavity remain the only reliable vulnerabilities.
Unlike many modern threats on Icarus, Sandwyrm Queens are not exotic mutations but remnants of the planet's original biosphere-one of the few apex species resilient enough to survive failed terraforming and the collapse of native ecosystems. Their ability to fly, reproduce rapidly, and endure extreme arid climates gave them a significant evolutionary edge. Queens rarely appear on the surface unless provoked or during reproductive cycles, but when they do, their presence can destabilize entire regions.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY CAN FLY NOW?!"
This creature is not listed in any spawn zone in the shipped tables — it is placed by a mission, a boss encounter or a tame, rather than by the world spawner. Its biome and maps above come from the bestiary itself.
